CARLISLE UNITED YOUNGSTER SUFFERS ACL INJURY

England striker Callum Wilson sent a message of support to promising Carlisle United midfielder Josh Dixon, as per reports. Dixonis facing a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in training this week.

The 18-year-old first-year professional had only recently returned from a similar injury and is now facing another lay-off.Manager Steven Pressley confirmed the news today after the friendly draw with Chester.

Dixon had only last week been awarded a new two-year deal. The youngster had impressed in training and in Carlisle United’s first pre-season friendly against Hibernian.

It is understood that Carlisle were aware of the injury as they awarded him a new contract, and pledged the club would look after Dixon in his recovery.

Pressley also revealed that Bournemouth and England striker Wilson, who played under him at Coventry had contacted the teenager with a message of support.

Callum Wilson had worked under Pressley and also recovered from a similar injury during his time with the Carlisle United manager.

Pressley revealed that it was ill luck for Dixon but he can recover from the injury and make to make a lasting impression in his football career.

Carlisle have shown support for the player with the contract which shows the degree of belief that the club has in his abilities.

Pressley, meanwhile, gave updates about the current state of the team. He revealed that left-back Jack Iredale would miss United’s next two friendlies as a precaution due to a thigh problem.

Iredake has not been involved in the side since the facing Hibernians and Pressley revealed that the player felt tightness in his thigh after the game. According to him

Iredalehas a week to continue his injury assessment before returning to completive football as the club does not want to risk aggravating the injury.
