Canadians Still World Cup Crazy

It has been over 25 years since Canada has managed to get into the World Cup, their best result was back in 1986 when they managed to get into the group stages but failed to make it out from those rounds, however that has not stopped the Canadians from having World Cup fever as it was reported by FIFA organizers that Canadians bought more than 28,999 tickets to watch some of the matches of the worldwide event which was more than any other nation that didn’t qualify for the tournament.

Almost the same thing happened 4 years ago when Canada was one of the top nations that attended for the 2010 World Cup even though their nation was not even competing in it. It was estimated that over 2 million Canadians watched Germany crush Brazil with their astounding 7-1 victory in the semifinals match.

Earlier in January, the Canadian Soccer Association announced to the media that they will make a bid to host the 2026 World Cup, whether or not it actually happens and manages to go through is another thing but the point is that Canada is starting to take genuine interest in the sport and this is beginning to show.

The 2015 Women’s World Cup will be hosted by Canada and depending on things go during that event it could increase their chances of actually hosting a World Cup in the near future, if indeed it does go through it will give Canada an automatic spot to qualify which is something that has not happened since 1986.

Canada’s club scene is flourishing as they now have 3 Major League Soccer Teams which are: Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact.
